Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry - A Gateway to Advancing Clinical Excellence

The Journal of Microscope Dentistry

Update 2/2007: We are 1 to 2 years out for the first official publication. What we would like to do is offer the "prototype" journal, that we paid to reissue. It is still a very timely journal and has articles on cracks, periodontal micro-surgery, precision prosthetics, and micro-photography. All but one of the articles were done by members of AMED. We will have an annual summary/journal for a few years and then eventually a quarterly journal. Continue to submit your articles.

_________
I invite you to submit an original manuscript for the inaugural issue. We plan to distribute 8000 copies of a highlight announcement version of this first issue to the majority of operating microscope owners in the United States, Canada, and Japan, as well as to leading practitioners in 15 countries. The first full versions will serve as Yearbooks of Microscope Dentistry until the Journal is produced on a quarterly basis

The JMD will be an evidence-based, peer reviewed international journal with a microscope-centered philosophy. In the first two years, it will be produced as an annual publication. World-renowned clinicians have already expressed interest in publishing articles in the first issue, addressing such topics as microphotography, micro-endo-restorative dentistry, periodontal microsurgery, restorative dentistry, and endodontics. We hope and expect to receive a substantial number of high quality submissions in response to this call; worthy contributions we cannot include in the inaugural issue will be included in subsequent issues.

The JMD will publish submissions of four kinds, in all cases illuminated by appropriate photographic images when available:

Perspectives: These will be opinion pieces of 250-750 words in length offering stimuli for research and debate. They may arise out of novel clinical situations and a practitioner’s response to them, or out of new views of best practices made possible by the microscope. These pieces need not be heavily referenced.

Clinical Papers: These will be case presentations or technical reports illuminating the technical possibilities of microscope-based dentistry, and/or telling the stories that reveal those possibilities. These papers will generally run from 750-1250 words in length.

Technical Updates: These will be brief updates (generally 150-250 words) on the cutting edges of microscopy, photography, computers, and other technologies that advance the efficiency and effectiveness of microscope-enhanced dentistry.
Research Papers: These will be formal papers reporting replicable research, discussing findings, drawing conclusions and addressing implications for microscope-based practice. These papers will generally run from 1000-2000 words.

All written correspondence will be conducted digitally except in extenuating circumstances. Details on the technical and editorial requirements of submissions are provided in the accompanying “Directions for Contributors.” Though the JMD will be published primarily in English, submissions in Spanish, Italian and Japanese will be reviewed for publication. Accepted contributions in these other languages may be published either in the form of brief, dual-language, abstracts in the JMD or in extended form and in the original language on the AMED web site. Prospective contributors interested in the design and visual layout of the journal may request an appointment to preview it. Submissions for the inaugural issue should be directed by email and attachment to Dr. David Clark, Editor in Chief, with the subject line “JMD Submission” addressed to

We look forward to your entry.
