GENERAL SESSION:
AkiyamaKeynote Speaker-
Dr. Dennis A. Shanelec
has practiced periodontics for thirty years in Santa Barbara and Solvang, California. He has pioneered periodontal and implant microsurgery, founding the Microsurgery Training Institute in Santa Barbara, California to provide clinical training in microsurgery. Internationally, he is recognized as an authority on magnification in dentistry and regarded as the founder of the field of periodontal microsurgery. He has served on the board of directors of both the Western Society of Periodontology and the California Society of Periodontists, serving as president of the California Society of Periodontists in 1988. He is a graduate of the UCLA School of Dentistry and completed his periodontal training at the University of Southern California. He and his wife Suzanne live in Santa Barbara.
MoraMaster of Innovation-
Dr. Assad F. Mora
is a board-certified prosthodontist with a full-time “Restorative Microdentistry” practice in Santa Barbara. He is a graduate of Indiana University with both DDS and MSD degrees. He is a pioneer in the field of Restorative Microdentistry and has been active in developing and inventing more user-friendly technology for microdentistry since 1992. In 1998, He pioneered a new era in visualization technology to view a magnified operating field without looking directly into the microscope. He introduced the use of stereo 3D video technology for viewing the operating field in real time while performing clinical dental procedure. This technology quadruples the effective magnification while maintaining a wide field of view, and brings postural comfort while expanding the range of visual accessibility to areas of the mouth that were extremely difficult, or near impossible, to access using the binoculars on a microscope. He has given presentations to numerous groups nationally and internationally. He is a contributor to the dental and patent literatures, and founder of the Institute of Microdentistry.
AkiyamaDr. Katsuhiko Akiyama maintains his private clinic in Yamanashi. He graduated Tokyo Dental University, School of Dentistry in 1985. He received the case presentation award at ITI/Harvard Dental Implant Course in 2005. He is an international member of A.A.P., an active member of Japan Association of Periodontist and Japan Clinical Periodontal Association.
Dr. Paul Anstey is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. He has lectured nationally and has served as a part-time faculty member and clinical lecturer at the UCLA School of Dentistry.
